Glad to see how Q tearing it up and Albany making a playoff run. Q will undoubtedly need a season or two in the AHL before we see him in NJ though. I was never too high on him but I'm beginning to develop some optimism on his game. Sounds like he can be a 3rd line C for us In the future. |

I disagree with not signing Chatham. While yes his numbers are not impressive for his age, but with the amount of turnover both in NJ and in Albany, it probably would be best to sign him.
I would much rather have Chatham in the system then say Sislo. Albany has O'Brien, Gragnani, Danis, Leblond, O'Neil, Sislo, Burlon, and Kelly as UFA/RFA(Burlon). If they feel Appleby can compete with Wedgewood, then Danis is gone. And I would bring Kelly and Burlon back, but on AHL deals. The rest can walk.
Not bringing back any of those forwards gives the younger guys a chance to prove them selves at that level, because guys like O'Neil, Sislo, and O'Brien are playing in the top 6. |

Gotta think the A-Devs have chance against the Marlies now that the big club isn't stealing all their talent. Should be exciting!
As for Connor, from what I read below he doesn't sound like someone I'd give up on just yet. http://www.hockeysfuture....prospects/connor-chatham/ |

The real test is when we win the lotto, do we pick Laine or Matthews? |

It's not hipster until Tanner comes out and says take Laine.
Thing is Laine is 7 months younger than Matthews, is 6'4" 210.
But I guess if you have #1 overall you have to go with the sure thing, even if Laines ceiling seems higher and take Matthews. |

Absolutely not. Sislo is a valuable player. He's not a prospect, but he's fast, he's a good scorer in the AHL, he can play defense and play special teams. He's the perfect guy to have as a call up and i wouldn't even mind him as a 4th liner.
Also Burlon is a UFA due to lack of NHL games played. |

If I had a choice, I take Laine... when the WJC were finished, I was of the same opinion. I love this guy. He finds open areas, his shot is a bullet and dead accurate, and he's big. I don't care if he's a "winger" because we need wingers in the worst kind of way. (With Zacha and Q coming up, still having Henrique and Zajac, we're fine in the middle... I'm not of the mind that you need a number one center who can score 90 points... I'm of the mind you can easily win with a number one center that can play with the best and end up in the + column with an "okay" amount of points (50-60))
But I doubt we get one of those slots. These lotteries are disasters waiting to happen (just look at last year's catastrophe). A team like Montreal, who are contenders so long as they have Price in nets, will end up getting second overall pick while the other two will go to like Toronto and Edmonton.
That's the way "random" works until you trash random picking and start coming up with more logical ways to do the draft. |

I'd be happy with any of Matthews, Laine or Puljujarvi.
Then again, if we stay put I'd be happy with Keller or McLeod, or even moving down a few spots and getting Logan Brown. There's a lot of pieces in this draft that could help the Devils. |

Last year we had a 7.5% chance of picking first, this year we have a 3% chance, but we have a 10% overall chance of moving up to the top 3. Best way to shake up the draft and prevent "tanking" is to give all non-playoff teams the same odds in the lotto and pull all draft positions from 1-14.

Can't say I've noticed out of all the people posting the lottery simulator results I don't think I saw any at all with the Devils winning so hopefully the balls fall in place for us when the real thin happens. We need to somehow acquire a top talent every team in the metro who competed has a legit star ( yeah we have Cory no ones forgot ) but we need a giroux, kessel, JT, you could go on and on we need a guy out of the crease on that level to compete. Winning a lottery would go a long way to getting us that type of player and we can't forget that we could be in for a real treat if there is still leaps to be made in Lars already impressive progress. |
